CHEMICAL PEELS
Chemical peeling is the controlled chemical wounding of the skin performed for medical and aesthetic improvements in the skin. Chemical peels are categorized into superficial, medium and deep level peels which correlates with their levels of action in the skin.
What are Superficial Chemical Peels?
Superficial chemical peels are indicated for a broad range of skin issues including acne, hyperpigmentation, photodamage, and aging. They are separated into “very light” and “light” based on their depth of action on the epidermis. They are typically composed of mild acids, such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) like glycolic acid, beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) like salicylic acid. Other common highly efficacious peeling agents include Jessner’s peels and trichloracetic acid (TCA) peels.
To get the best results from any chemical peel, a pre-treatment regimen is recommended and can be tailored to your needs at your consultation.

What are Medium Depth Chemical Peels?:
Medium depth chemical peels are indicated for more significant photodamage, againg, and hyperpigmentation as well as the ablation of pre-cancerous lesions called actinic keratoses. The downtime associated with these peels is generally longer than superficial, ranging from 10-14 days, however the results are impressive. Typical medium depth peels include varying concentrations of TCA, sometimes combined with Jessner’s acid solution.
