LIPOMAS
Lipomas are benign, soft, and often movable lumps of fat that tend to grow slowly under the skin or muscle. While they are generally not a cause for concern, they can sometimes cause discomfort if they press on nerves or other tissues. Although the exact cause is not always clear, they can run in families and may be linked to genetic factors. Surgical removal is considered if the lipoma becomes painful, interferes with movement or affects appearance. Most lipomas do not recur after surgical excision which can be performed safely and reliably in the outpatient clinical setting, sparing you a trip to the hospital and general anesthesia.
