DermaV Laser Overview

DermaV is a laser platform built for two of the most common reasons patients ask us about cosmetic laser care: redness and uneven pigment. It combines two wavelengths in one device, 532 nm for surface redness and brown spots and 1064 nm for deeper vessels, so one visit can address more than one concern.

In our Dearborn office, DermaV sits alongside laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels and microneedling. If texture, scarring or fine lines are your main concern, we may point you to one of those instead, or combine them.

How DermaV Works

The laser light is absorbed by the red pigment in small blood vessels and the brown pigment in sun and age spots. That energy heats the target and leaves the surrounding skin alone. Treated vessels fade over the following weeks, and brown spots usually darken slightly, then flake away.

DermaV is used for rosacea redness and flushing, broken capillaries on the nose and cheeks, cherry angiomas, sun spots, age spots and red marks left after acne. The two short clips below show the device in use. Both contain flashing light.

Photosensitivity warning: these videos contain flashing lights that may trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. They never play on their own.

Consultation And Preparation

At your first visit, Dr. Abraham Abdulhak or nurse practitioner Lamise Mohana looks at your redness, veins or spots up close and asks about your skin history, medications and sun exposure. Some red or brown marks are better treated another way, and some spots need a closer look before any laser touches them. You leave with a clear plan and a number of sessions.
For the two weeks before treatment, avoid tanning, self-tanner and strong sun on the area. Let us know about any retinoids, acne medicines or blood thinners you take, and if you have a history of cold sores. We tell you exactly what to pause and when.
Come with clean skin and no makeup on the area. Sessions are done in the office, and most facial sessions take well under an hour, with no general anesthesia and no stitches. Plan to wear sunscreen and a hat on the drive home.

What Happens During DermaV Treatment

1.

The area is cleansed and you put on protective eyewear. A test pulse may be placed first so we can check how your skin responds to the settings.

2.

The handpiece is passed over each area of redness or pigment. Most patients describe each pulse as a quick snap of warmth, and the built-in cooling keeps the skin comfortable.

3.

Once the pulses are finished, we cool and soothe the skin. Mild redness, warmth or a little swelling right away is normal and expected.

4.

You go home with written aftercare and a follow-up visit to check your progress and decide whether another session would help.

Your Recovery Timeline

Redness and Swelling

Expect redness, warmth or puffiness for a few hours to a couple of days. Cool compresses help, and most people go back to work the same day or the next.

Darkening Spots

Treated brown spots often turn a little darker and look like coffee grounds before they flake away, usually within one to two weeks. Let them come off on their own.

Sun Protection and Care

Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day and keep the treated area out of strong sun. Healing skin marks more easily, and sun can bring pigment back.

When to Resume Normal Activities

Gentle skin care and makeup can usually restart within a day unless the skin is blistered or broken. Skip hot workouts, saunas and very hot showers for a day or two.

When to Expect Visible Results

Some vessels fade right away, while others clear over two to six weeks as the body clears them. Brown spots lighten as they flake. Many patients need more than one session, spaced about four to six weeks apart. The before and after on this page was taken six months after one treatment.

Who Benefits Most From DermaV

Key Advantages of DermaV

One device treats both red and brown concerns, so many patients do not need separate lasers for redness and pigment. Sessions are quick, there is no cutting, and most people return to normal plans the same day. Because the laser targets pigment and blood vessels, the skin around the treated spot is spared. And your treatment is planned and overseen by a dermatology practice, so a spot that looks suspicious is checked before it is treated.
